Bugs' Bonnets Painted Production Background (Warner Brothers, 1956). In this wild Chuck Jones-directed short, released on 1/14/56, Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny have personality changes every time a different hat falls on their heads (a truck loaded with costume hats lost them all when the back doors flew open). By the end of the cartoon, a bridal veil lands on Elmer and top hat on Bugs, so of course they marry -- Bugs likes a happy ending! This beautiful Richard Thomas hand-painted production background of a serene cottage surrounded by trees and pink sky is seen at the very end of the short, as Bugs carries his "bride" to their new home. Art is in gouache on a vertical 16 field sheet of animation board, with an image area of 13.5" x 21". It's always rare to find WB production art from this era, as most pieces were destroyed in the 1960s. Pinholes in corners, with an extra set of pegholes; masking tape in two corners, and slight moisture damage. Good condition. From the Willie Ito Collection.
