Beanstalk Jack Production Background Group of 4 (Terrytoons, 1946). Directed by Eddie Donnelly, this Terrytoons short combines the stories of "The Old Woman in the Shoe" and "Jack and the Beanstalk" as Jack goes up the Beanstalk in search of gold to help out the poor old woman. This is a set of stunning hand-painted backgrounds from this short, which was originally released on December 20, 1946. They demonstrate the versatility of the artists employed by Terrytoons. The first depicts a stewpot on a stove, in sharp focus, and lit from the side. The Old Woman has just tried to make an entire soup out of one bean! The second is a nighttime view out of one of the windows in the giant's castle. The third is an idyllic landscape painting, softly lit, with beautiful pastel coloring. The third is a very hazy, soft focus depiction of the kitchen cupboard. All are gouache on 3 top peghole cardboard measuring approximately 10" x 12". Small amount of residue left from adhesive near the top border of all four, "on-screen" image area left unaffected. Fine condition on all.
