    Description

Barnyard Blackout Painted Backgrounds Original Art Group of 2 (Terrytoons, 1943). In this World War II cartoon, Gandy Goose and Sourpuss are Air Raid Wardens enforcing a blackout. The main action involved a rooster and his family; at first, the rooster pays little heed to his wife's urging to prepare a "blackout room." Moments later, the blackout begins, and the rooster and hen frantically try to cover all the windows in their house. These two hand-painted 12 field backgrounds are from this Mannie Davis-directed short; IMBd lists Anderson Craig and W. M. Stevens as the background artists. This first, noted as 10 in the upper right corner, shows the rooster's chair, as he reads the paper; it comes at the 1:14 mark. The second painting, noted as 13A, features a bed the rooster looks under while searching for thumbtacks. Art is in gouache on skimmed illustration board. Both would make excellent backgrounds for other cels, or as unusual wall decorations. Very Good condition, with minor handling wear.
