A Date For Dinner Painted Backgrounds Group of 2 (Terrytoons, 1947). One thing Terrytoons did just about as well as any studio cranking out one low-budget theatrical short a week for years on end was to produce lush, gorgeous backgrounds, even for mundane subjects such as inside walls and backyard scenes. Many of these were created throughout the 1940s and '50s by Arthur Bartsch (1904 - 1971), Anderson Craig (1904 - 1964), and Bill Hilliker (birth and death info unknown). Here are two splendid examples from a Mighty Mouse short, the Eddie Donnelly-directed A Date For Dinner, released on 8/29/47. The first hand-painted 12 field background, of the house interior with a mouse hole (and crumpled wall where the cat climbed up from within) is marked #33, and can be seen at the 3:55 mark. The second, of the outdoor table where two cats await a meal promised by one of the mice sit, is marked #38, and is seen at the 4:35 mark (the "dinner" was Mighty Mouse). Both are painted in gouache on skimmed illustration board. Very Good condition with minor handling and edge wear.
