Description

1001 Arabian Nights Production Background Paintings Group of 2, Bob "Yoshi" Inman, (UPA, 1959). 1) Beautiful pair of matted, background painting for the 1959 Mr. Magoo film, 1001 Arabian Nights. The first of UPA's two theatrically-released films (the second being 1962's Gay Purr-ee), this retelling of the Aladdin story starts near-sighted Mr. Magoo as Aladdin uncle, Abdul Aziz Magoo! The first of two paintings is a somber-colored, dismal scene of a castle which has either fallen into disrepair after being abandoned or after having been visited with some disaster. Castle walls and towers are in ruins, walls crumble down, and the internal structures are left exposed. The second is a mysterious, night-time scene, with a mythical sea-side castle. A bridge leads over the water to the castle gate; palm trees and rocky cliffs make up the background. The whole scene is delicately illuminated by purple moonlight. Both are painted by long-time UPA studio background artist and color-stylist, Bob "Yoshi" Inman. Matt openings on each measures 13" x 9". In Fine condition.
