Oliver & Company Preliminary Production Background (Walt Disney, 1988). Take a walk past a colorful newsstand with this wonderful lot, featuring a fantastic hand-painted preliminary production background from Oliver and Company, Disney's wonderful reimagining of Oliver Twist. Directed by George Scribner, this movie premiered in theaters on November 18, 1988, and featured voices by prominent celebrities such as Billy Joel, Cheech Marin, and Bette Midler, among many others. Stupendously rendered in gouache on a 16-field background board, this background shows the stand backed by trees featuring a 16-field cel overlay that adds the linework. The boards bears the production number for the film "0421" in the bottom edge. Backgrounds of the film are credited to Jim Coleman, Lisa Keene, Steve Butz, Tia Kratter, Phil Phillipson, Brian Sebern, John Emerson, Andy Phillipson, and Bob Stanton. the overlay is taped to the background by the top edge and it shows a small tear away from the art. Presenting overall mild handling and edge wear from production, this lot is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
