Angel's Egg City Courtyard Production Background by Shichiro Kobayashi (Studio Deen, 1985). By the hand of legendary anime art director Shichiro Kobayashi (1932 - 2022), presented is a haunting original production background from Mamoru Oshii's surreal animated masterpiece Angel's Egg. Created in collaboration with artist Yoshitaka Amano, Angel's Egg is an experimental and thought-provoking cult classic, famous for its minimal dialogue and evocative imagery. This incredible piece is rendered in gouache on board with a hand-painted acetate layer with hatched hand-inked linework, bearing all the hallmarks of the artist's signature style. This stunning 14" x 10" background can be seen at the 50:43 mark of the film. The piece is numbered 345 in the upper right corner, and it shows minor handling and edge wear from normal studio use.
