    Description

Orphan's Benefit Stage Painted Pan Background (Walt Disney, 1941). "Mickey's Big Show -- The Orphan's Benefit!" reads the marquee on the outside of the theater, in the opening shot of this cartoon. This is a historic lot: the hand-painted pan production background of the stage, where Mickey and Donald first walk out in front of the orphans at the :46 mark into the short. It is used several times in the cartoon. This is the only frame-by-frame remake of a Disney theatrical cartoon, a remake of the 1934 black and white Orphan's Benefit. This version was directed by Riley Thompson and released on 8/12/41. Background is painted in gouache on pan background board measuring 34.5" x 9.5", with Studio stamps and Riley's signature on the reverse. This stage pan background is perfect to create a Disney Master cel setup! There are notes on the bottom border. Tape residue on top and bottom borders, with minor handling and edge wear. Very Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
