Original signed Eyvind Earle oversize concept art from Sleeping Beauty's Castle. Original signed Eyvind Earle oversize concept art from Sleeping Beauty's Castle. (Walt Disney Studios, 1957) Stunning large Eyvind Earle original concept painting created during pre-production of Sleeping Beauty and used as design for the "Sleeping Beauty Walkthrough Attraction" at Disneyland. Production on the Sleeping Beauty feature began around 1950. Eyvind Earle was the film's color stylist and chief background designer. It was his artistic style and look that influenced the entire film. When Disneyland opened in 1955, the second story of Sleeping Beauty's castle was empty, something Walt was not happy with. Imagineers envisioned a walkthrough attraction and turned to Earle, already painting concepts for the film, for inspiration. His concepts for the walkthrough attraction differ from those made for the film in the fact that all the walkthrough concepts are painted with the perspective of looking throgh a window, just like the dioramas inspired from these paintings. The walkthrough opened in 1957, two years before the film premired. Accomplished in Acrylic and Tempera on illustration board, this amazing image of Briar Rose in the forest measures 11 x 24 in. Condition is very fine with very little wear throughout and pinholes in the corners. Signed in the lower right "Eyvind Earle".
