Description

Original production drawing from Little Ol' Bosko And The Cannibals. Original production drawing from Little Ol' Bosko And The Cannibals. (MGM Studios, 1937) Rare original production drawing featuring "Bosko" from Little ol' Bosko and the Cannibals. "Bosko" was conceived by Hugh Harman and Rudolph Ising, in 1927 while the pair worked with Walt Disney on his Alice Comedies series. They had hoped to use the character to capitalize on the new "talkie" craze sweeping the motion picture industry. In 1929, after leaving Disney and a short stint at Universal, they produced a short pilot sound cartoon to market their character. This short was the first animated production in history to use synchronized speech. Leon Schlesinger offered the pair a contract to produce a series of cartoons and Bosko became one of the first stars of the Merrie Melodies series. Harman and Ising kept all rights to their character and after a contract dispute in 1933, left Warner Bros and took their character to MGM Studios, where he was redesigned into the little boy seen here. Accomplished in graphite, and colored pencil on untrimmed 9.5 x 12 in. animation paper. Paper condition is fine with very little wear throughout. Image size is 6.5 x 5.5 in.
