Description

Original production cels and matching production background from Alice in Wonderland. Original production cels and matching production background from Alice in Wonderland. (Walt Disney Studios, 1951) Fantastic rare original production cel featuring the inhabitants of Wonderland chasing "Alice" paired with the matching effects cel and production background from Walt Disney's Alice in Wonderland. Like many of Walt Disney's 1950s features, Alice in Wonderland had it roots at the Studio in the 1930s. In fact, as early as 1932, Walt was considering of making an Alice In Wonderland animated/live action feature starring Mary Pickford, but opted to produce Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs instead. In 1939, pre-production began with art director David Hall, whose vision of "Alice" was much darker than Walt's. Production was halted and the idea was not revived again until 1945. Artist Mary Blair submitted concept drawings for "Alice" and Walt, liking the design and direction she was taking began production. This fantastic Key cel setup is composed of two cels. The cel of the wonderland inhabitants is trimmed to image and applied the top of the untrimmed smoke effects cel. The untrimmed background measures 12.5 x 15.5 in. Background has studio notations, and scene numbers along the bottom. Overall condition is very fine with no wear or paint loss.
