On the Trail Concept Paintings Group of 10 by Retta Scott (Walt Disney, c. 1940s). Retta Scott came back to Walt Disney Studios in 1943 after a brief wartime layoff. She was put in Disney's Story Department. This is a series of ten detailed Concept Art paintings that were done for an unmade film. This project was highlighted in Charles Solomon's book The Disney That Never Was (Hyperion 1995). The story featured a Native American Indian boy and his burro who explore the land outside their pueblo in the Grand Canyon region. Retta Scott traveled to the American Southwest to paint and study the area's colors and light in the desert. Detailed paintings in gouache on board measuring 9.5" x 12", mounted to 16 field 5-peghole background boards; one is undersized at 7.5" x 8.5". Images are of the mother and little girl characters; two of wild stallions; and seven are tribal headdress studies. There are notes on bottom borders. Brilliant colors. Minor handling and edge wear. Very Good condition From the Retta Scott Archives.
