My Little Pony: Rescue at Midnight Castle Background Color Keys Group of 4 (Hasbro/Marvel, 1984). This animated television special was first shown on 4/14/1984; it served as the pilot for the animated series. It was later shortened and shown as the final 2-part episode of Season 1, airing on 11/20-21/1986. Here are four original Color Key background paintings done for this special. Color Key paintings like this are the early versions of backgrounds that will be used in the production, done smaller and painted with gouache on illustration board. There's a great pink castle painting (approximate image size 11.25" x 6.75", board size 11.25" x 8"); an interior image of a kitchen loaded down with dishes (image 9.5" x 6", board 9.5" x 7.25); a stylized view of mountains and trees (image 9.25" x 7.25", board 9.25" x 8.5"); and a pan view of a river with mountains and a smoke-filled sky (image 14.75" x 7.25", board 14.75" x 8.5". The smaller mountains painting has some contact scratch marks. Good to Very Good condition with some handling wear.Auction Info
