Mulan Fa Zhou and Fa Li Presentation Cel Setup on Production Background (Walt Disney, 1998). Mulan's father, Fa Zhou hands his crutch to his wife and prepares to accept induction into the Emperor's army n this pivotal scene from Mulan. This film was Disney's 36th animated feature film, and the first to be produced primarily at the Disney/MGM Studios in Florida. Since hand-painted cels weren't used in its production, but hand-painted backgrounds were, hand-painted presentation cels created from archived production drawings by the Disney Ink and Paint department were paired with matching hand-painted production backgrounds. A limited number of these one-of-a-kind setups were offered for sale to the public at The Art of Mulan auction held in New York City on March 6th, 1999. This is lot #35 from that sale and it features an oversized hand-painted cel of Zhou and Li who measure 7" and 6" tall respectively on a 16 filed cel. The cels are over the original hand-painted pan background from scene 19 sequence 4 which appears at the 15:03 mark. It's a magnificent image from a film so popular that a live-action remake was released in the summer of 2020. The art is in its original 24 x 19' Plexiglas front frame from the auction. Condition is Fine and frame is sold as-is.
