Description
Mr. Bug Goes to Town Pair of Screen-Used Key Master Production Backgrounds (Fleischer Studios, 1941). This pair of hand-painted Key Master production backgrounds comes from Fleischer Studios' 1941 feature film, Mr. Bug Goes to Town, produced by Max Fleischer and directed by Dave Fleischer. Inspired by Maurice Maeterlinck's book, "The Life of the Bee," the film follows Hoppity the Grasshopper as he returns to Manhattan to find his insect friends in peril. The insects, residing in the "Lowlands" outside a garden bungalow, face threats from humans using a broken-down fence as a shortcut. These screen-used backgrounds, painted in gouache on 15" x 12" background boards, depict the climactic scene beginning at the 1:16:46 mark when Hoppity leads an exodus to a skyscraper's top, searching for a "Garden of Paradise." The stunning backgrounds seamlessly blend together, capturing the moment Hoppity's vision is realized. They are matted in a double aperture matboard measuring 36.5" x 17" and present in Good condition with some toning and edge wear, showcasing the detailed artistry of the Fleischer Studios.Auction Info
