Mother Goose Goes Hollywood Laurel and Hardy Animation Drawings Sequence of 7 (Walt Disney, 1938).Mother Goose Goes Hollywood was the 73rd short subject film of the 75 Silly Symphony shorts produced by Walt Disney Pictures. This Wilfred Jackson-directed short was the most expensive Silly Symphony cartoon with a budget of $69,300. Mother Goose Goes Hollywood went on to earn an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Short Film at the 1938 Academy Awards. In Mother Goose Goes Hollywood Simple Simon, Stan Laurel, is seen fishing with a fish on his hook and catching worms. The Pieman, Oliver Hardy, is busy tending a pile of his pies on a wagon. Laurel refuses an offered pie, and picks one from the middle of the pile, which scares Hardy, fearing the pile will collapse. Nothing happens, however and a reassured Hardy tries to do the same. When the pile collapses and one of the pies lands on his head, he looks angrily at Laurel, who swallows his pie in one piece and then snickers at Hardy. Hardy throws one of his pies at Laurel, who ducks his head inside his shirt. From this scene in Mother Goose Goes Hollywood we have a terrific sequence of six animation drawings showing the Pieman throwing his wares at Simple Simon. You will find this scene beginning around the 3:28 mark. Each piece was hand-drawn in graphite with colored pencil on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper. This collection of vintage drawings have mild handling, edge wear and age-related toning. Otherwise the artwork is in Very Good condition.
