Moose Hunters Donald Duck Animation Drawings Sequence of 5 (Walt Disney, 1937). You can't help but wonder if the primary reason that Donald has remained pantless for 80 years is so that the Disney story men could have every excuse to load up each short with more "fanny" gags (Walt's words, not ours). Once again, Donald's posterior is the "butt" of the joke - in fact, he has just landed on a bee! This short, released to theaters on February 20, 1937, features Mickey, Donald, and Goofy all tracking Moose through an alpine wilderness. It was directed by the prolific Ben Sharpsteen and featured animation by Disney greats Art Babbit, Norm Ferguson, and Clyde Geronimi. Mickey and the fellas have all cobbled together some rather shoddy disguises, Mickey cloaking himself with an appetizing (to a moose, anyway) bush, and Goofy and Donald employing a seductive "lady moose" costume - complete with antlers! They are about as successful as you might think... After nearly falling off a cliff, Donald swings back up to safety and lands in a small patch of flowers - occupied by a very territorial little bee! In this hilarious sequence of drawings, seen at the 4:50 point in the film, Donald has just learned the importance of "look before you sit!" Still tangled up in the moose costume, Donald struggles to escape the bee's anger in a series of wonderfully expressive - and funny - images. All five drawings consist of very large image areas, with some covering nearly half the page. Donald is rendered in graphite and colored pencil on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper. Minor creasing and toning of paper throughout the sequence. In Very Good condition.Auction Info
