    Description

Modern Inventions Group of 4 Donald Duck Animation Drawings (Walt Disney, 1937). "Your hat, sir." And just why is Donald wearing a silk top hat you might ask? A very persistent robot butler! Perhaps in a nod to the many World's Fairs which were still in vogue at the time, this short was set at "The Museum of Modern Marvels." Inside the museum, Donald is continuously outsmarted by a slew of sassy robots, all utterly devoted to duty. Unfortunately, some of the kinks remain to be straightened out... As Donald admires the exhibits, the Robot Butler interrupts each of Donald's reveries with his signature "Your hat, sir." This short was released on May 29, 1937 and was directed by Jack King. Carl Barks, who probably knew Donald better than anyone else at the studio, wrote the story. The voice of Snow White herself, Adriana Caselotti, provided the voice for the robotic nursemaid, who diapers and feeds "Baby" Donald. This was the last Disney film to be released by United Artists. All subsequent Disney films would be distributed by RKO until the formation of Disney's own in-house distributor, Buena Vista Pictures in 1953. Donald stands nearly 5" tall in this sequence of original animation drawings. He is rendered in graphite and colored pencil on 12 field, 5-peghole animation paper. Donald wears a top hat here - and his hats become increasingly outlandish as the film continues. (The robot butler insists upon always taking his hat.) Much in the same manner that Donald kept producing a new fife after each one was broken by Mickey in The Band Concert, Donald is somehow able to make a succession of different hats appear - after the robot snatches them away. Drawings are in Fine condition.
