Description
Woodland Café Fly Original Model Sheet (Walt Disney, 1937). Here we have a rare original 12 field 5-peghole model sheet of the fly from the 1937 Wilfred Jackson-directed short Woodland Café! The Silly Symphony was released on 3/13/1937 and invited audiences to visit the thriving nightclub full of familiar insects who danced, performed, and serenaded the night away. Model sheets were used by animators (in this case Paul Allen, Charles Byrne, Johnny Cannon, Jack Hannah, Ward Kimball, Isadore Klein, Dick Lundy, Leonard Sebring, Robert Stokes, and Cy Young) to keep a single character consistent throughout their scenes. They were often made in Joe Grant's model department, though this short predates the creation of the department by a few months, and copies would be made in small quantities and passed around the studio as reference. Original model sheets are incredibly rare and are highly collectible by fans! This model sheet is as charming as the short itself and features 10 graphite with color pencil drawings of the fly that performs with the spider on stage. The sheet includes a hand-written note about the character's eyes not having highlights and maintaining a consistent roundness and side for the head and eyes; things that the animators would want to keep in mind while they were working. Nine of the ten drawings have been trimmed and attached to the page and they measure about 8'' x 7'' combined. The lot is a fantastic piece of animation history and is in Good condition with light edge and handling wear, pinholes, light toning, and minor residue/edge tearing.From the Disney Legend Inductee Manuel Gonzales Archive.
