    Description

Tin Pan Alley Cats Model Sheet Drawings Group of 2 (Warner Brothers, 1943). Bob Clampett directed this jazzy Merry Melody which was a follow-up to his popular short Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs, released earlier that year. Tin Pan Alley Cats focuses upon contemporary themes of African-American culture, jazz music, and World War II, and features a caricature of jazz musician Fats Waller as a cat. This lot is a pair of original model sheet drawings of that cat. Both are rendered in graphite on 12-field 2-peghole paper. The first drawing features five very expressive full-body images which measure approximately 4" tall each and the second has three 3" tall profiles. This is extraordinarily rare studio artwork from one of the "Censored 11" Warner cartoons. Both show light handling and toning; otherwise, condition is Very Good. From the Rev Chaney Archives.
