Description
Three Orphan Kittens Character Study Drawing (Walt Disney, 1935). The ever mischievous trio of Fluffy, Muffy, and Tuffy make a stellar appearance across this rare original character study drawing for their theatrical short Three Orphan Kittens. This sweet feature won the 1935 Oscar for Best Short Subject (Cartoons), received a three-month-long Sunday comic strip adaptation directly preceding its October 26, 1935 debut, and was even followed by the sequel More Kittens releasing in December of the next year. Character studies like this one give animators an opportunity to practice expression and poses to ensure that the proper emotion is conveyed on screen. Featuring an array of images depicting everything from curious trepidation through unbridled excitement, the kittens have been rendered in graphite and colored pencil as 11 full-figured and 6 partial-figured characters sharing a combined image area of 11.25" x 8.5" nearly filling the 12 field 2-peghole animation sheet. This rare sheet even features some incredible tabby stripe detailing on a few of the kittens, a design element that was likely cut as the feature transitioned from the story/planning stage to animation due to the extremely laborious process of attempting to match stripes frame-by-frame. With typical handling and edge wear including faint age-related toning, minor surface smudging, and a pinhole near the center top edge, overall these delightfully playful kittens are in Very Good condition.From the Disney Legend Inductee Andreas Deja Collection.
