The Three Caballeros "Happy Chappies" Limited Edition Cel 5/250 (Walt Disney/Courvoisier Galleries, 1945). This is a cel that the Disney Ink and Paint Department created for the Courvoisier Galleries as a special hand-painted print, limited to 250. This is, in fact, the very first Limited Edition Disney animation cel! In 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt personally asked Walt Disney to do a public relations campaign for South America. Walt took 16 artists, animators, writers, and musicians to five countries, for ten weeks. This trip resulted in the making of two feature films -- 1942's Saludos Amigos, and 1945's The Three Caballeros. Panchito, Jose Carioca, and Donald Duck are the three "Happy Chappies," with figures all 4" to 5" tall. A WDP was inked below Panchito's spur, and the cel was placed over a tan paper background with airbrushed shadows. The art is matted and framed with glass to an overall 16" x 15.25", with the original Courvoisier label affixed to the reverse. Overall Fine condition.Auction Info
