Description

The Goof (Goofy) Model Sheet Original Art (Walt Disney, 1932). Here is one of the single most important pieces of Goofy artwork ever brought to market -- the original ink and graphite drawing for the very first PUBLISHED Studio model sheet of Goofy, while he was still known by his nickname, "The Goof." According to animation historians, the character of Goofy was created by Art Babbitt and Frank Webb. In a 1930s lecture, Mr. Babbitt described Goofy as "a composite of everlasting optimist, gullible, good Samaritan, a half-wit, a shiftless, good natured hick." Goofy first appeared as Dippy Dog in the 1932 short Mickey's Revue; later that year he was Goofy in The Whoopee Party. He was originally used in shorts with Mickey and Donald Duck, finally receiving his first starring role in 1939's Goofy and Wilbur. He became a star with his Sports "How-to Series" and then in the 1950s morphed in to his "Everyman" series (as "George Geef"). He eventually made his own feature film in the 1990s and had his own TV series, Goof Troop. Two Goofy theatrical shorts received Academy Award nominations: How to Play Football and Aquamania. The model sheet has eight images of Goofy, with sizes ranging from 3" to 5.5". The art is matted with an opening of 13" x 9", and framed with Plexiglas for an overall size of 22" x 18". Frame is sold as-is. Paper has minor handling wear and toning; for its vintage, it's in Very Good condition. Museum quality artwork!
