Description

Lil' Eightball Studio-Printed Model Sheet Group of 2 (Walter Lantz, 1939). Presented in this lot is a pair of studio-printed model sheets featuring the Walter Lantz cartoon character Lil' Eightball. Debuting in 1939 with the short The Stubborn Mule, the controversial Lil' Eightball only appeared for two more shorts that same year. The character continued in the pages of The Funnies from Dell Comics, starting with issue #62 cover dated May of 1942. However, after complaints arrived at the publishing company, Lil' Eightball was discontinued in 1947. These two 14.25" x 12" photographic prints of the model sheets were used during the production of the shorts to maintain cohesion across the three shorts, both displaying the signature "Kopietz" in the top right corner, from animator Fred Kopietz (1909 - 1992). One of the sheets has pinholes on the top edge. Both items present some warping. Showing light handling and edge wear from production, the lot is in Very Good condition.
