Description
Gulliver's Travels Studio Model Sheet Print Group of 26 (Fleischer Studios, 1939). The success of Walt Disney's first feature-length animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937 prompted the Fleischer Studios to respond with their own feature, Gulliver's Travels, which was released to theaters on 12/18/1939. Like Snow White, Gulliver's Travels was a box-office success, generating earnings of $3.27 million in the US, despite a limited initial release to only 50 theaters. Here's a rare collection of 26 original studio-used model sheets made during production of the film. These are printed on either 14" x 11.5" photographic print paper or 12 field (13.75" x 11") 2-peghole paper, and include the following: Gulliver sheet F-8-1 dated 3/22/39 (torn, with old paper tape on back); Comparative Size Chart with Prince, Princess, both Kings, and Gabby; Comparative Size Chart with Sneak, Snoop, and Snitch Spies; King Bombo, dated 1/16/39; King of Lilliput date 12/29/38; Snitch spy, copyright 1939; Snitch, dated April 1940 (a Sneak, Snoop, and Snitch short was released in 1940, and another in 1941); "Snoop" Spy Model Sheet #2; "Snoop" Spy dated 11/19/38; Gabby Model Chart #1 dated 1/10/39); Gabby Model Chart # 2 dated 1/10/38 (three copies); Florist and Guards dated 1/5/39 (two copies); Volunteer and Tie-Up Group (two copies), and Incidental Characters sheets no-number (with 2 written in graphite), #2, #3, #4, #5, #6 (two copies), #7, and no-number with "X" marked in graphite. Several sheets have names: "Joe" on one, "Pat" on several. Overall average condition is Good, with handling and edge wear, plus small edge tears.More information about Fleischer Studios.
