Description

Reason and Emotion Rare Animation Drawing/Layout Drawing Group of 5 (Walt Disney, 1943). From one of Disney's most impactful World War II shorts Reason and Emotion, we present five rare 12 field and 16 field animation/layout drawings! The Bill Roberts-directed short was released on 8/27/1943 and urged viewers to listen to reason and not let Hitler and those like him prey on their emotions. The lot includes three 12 field animation drawings, one of the caveman Emotion and two of the child Junior (found at about 0:42 and 2:09 respectively), a rough close-up 16 field drawing of the unnamed woman whose reason and emotion we see at about 3:09, and finally a 12 field layout of the woman's Emotion found at around 3:25. They range from about 4'' x 3'' to 8.75'' x 11''. Ollie Johnston and Ward Kimball animated the short, and the layout is attributed to Disney Legend Ollie Johnston (1912 - 2008), who handled the animation for the woman in the short. He stated in the book Disney During World War II that the design for the woman's emotion in particular was a departure from characters like Snow White and the Blue Fairy, and a look at a different type of girl that might have been used in their films. The group is in Good condition overall with light edge and handling wear, pinholes, and some toning from age.
From the Disney Legend Inductee Andreas Deja Collection.
