Lady and the Tramp Rat and Tramp Pair of Layout Drawings with Trusty Character Study Drawing by Disney Legend Ken O'Connor (Walt Disney, 1955). "A rat." "Where?" "Upstairs, in the baby's room." Included in this lot are two incredible 16 field layout drawings of Tramp and the rat and one character study drawing of Trusty created by Disney Legend Ken O'Connor (1908 - 1998). O'Connor studied commercial art at Melbourne Technical College and fine art at the Australian National Gallery, later joining Disney in 1935 after he continued to learn at the California School of Art. An experienced layout artist and director, he created work for Pinocchio, Dumbo, Fantasia, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, and many more films and shorts. This included unforgettable things like Cinderella's beautiful coach, the dancing hippos from Fantasia, and marching cards. The pair of mixed media layouts were created for about 1:06:22 as Tramp eyes the rat who is hiding in the baby's room, while the study includes four pastel full figure poses and two expressions of the beloved character Trusty. The sheet was created to practice drawing the character consistently and on model, something that was important for layout artists as well as animators. The drawings range from approximately 14.5'' x 3.75'' to 14.25'' x 8'' combined. Good condition with light edge and handling wear, some age-related toning, pinholes, and faint smudging.From the Ken O’Connor Archive.
