Description

Flip the Frog Publicity Illustration and Print (Ub Iwerks, 1930). Flip the Frog was a character created by Ub Iwerks for a series of shorts created by his own studio from 1930 to 1933. The detailed original ink publicity art and publicity art print offer a look at some of the earliest publicity art made for the character, each with personality and charm that can only be found in classic animation. The 3.75'' x 6'' print was created to promote Flip's debut and his first short Fiddlesticks that premiered on 8/16/1930. The short was produced by MGM, but wasn't released by them. The print still bears their name, however, and preserves that piece of history. The original hand-drawn 7.5'' x 10.5'' ink on board publicity art is a romantic scene of Flip and his girlfriend Flap, who first appears in the 1930 short Puddle Pranks. Both are rare pieces of publicity art for the initial version of Iwerks' short-lived character, who became less and less frog-like as time went on. The print is displayed in a 8'' x 10'' mat and is in Very Good condition with light handling while the ink artwork is in Good condition with light toning, pinholes, faint edge wear, and areas of smudging and stray marks on the back.
