Description

Donald's Nephews Original Storyboard Art with Donald Duck Character Study Drawing (Walt Disney, 1938/c. 1930s-40s). Presented in this lot is a wonderful original graphite and color pencil storyboard from Donald's Nephews and a one-of-a-kind animator's character study drawing! The 8.25'' x 6.25'' storyboard was created for roughly 0:28 in the Jack King-directed short as Donald reads a letter he received from his sister Dumbella, hoping that Donald can handle looking after her mischievous triplets. This was the very first mention of her as well as the first animated appearance of Huey, Dewey, and Louie. The color pencil study, however, was created by a Disney animator to practice drawing the character in the 1930s-40s. These are a few of the many, many drawings behind the scenes needed for each artist to animate the character consistently on model and were especially important for Donald with his duck bill. Animators would often create these drawings while referencing the official model sheets that were passed around the studio to ensure the characters looked and moved their best. Like model sheets and model sheet prints, this study is highly collectible! There are five expressions where the animator practices with the duck's head construction and mouth shapes, as well as two expressive hands. All are rendered on paper and mounted to thin 13.25'' x 6.5'' board. Overall, the lot is in Good condition with light age-related toning, pinholes and faint residue, and slight curling to the study drawing.
