Description

Disney Ephemera - Assortment of 8 Photos and 10-Page Pinocchio Document with Model Sheet Prints by Modeler/Theme Park Designer Bob Jones - Group of 9 (Walt Disney, c. 1940s/80s). Rare behind-the-scenes material from Walt Disney's Pinocchio, this assortment includes eight vintage black-and-white photos featuring model maker Bob Jones at work. Image sizes: 8" x 10" (2), 9" x 6.5" (1), 5" x 7" (1), 4.5" x 5.5" (3), and 3.5" x 5" (1). Accompanying the photographs is a ten-page document written by Jones on creating "a most famous puppet character," plus 8.5" x 11" prints of Pinocchio model sheets. Jones, a versatile Disney craftsman, moved from the camera department on Snow White to Joe Grant's Character Model Department, where he helped define the studio's model-driven approach. The photos show reference miniatures and character maquettes-tools that allowed animators to stage forms from any angle and gave Pinocchio its remarkable dimensionality. Several views capture working models such as Stromboli's wagon and studio table-top setups that informed the film's screen staging. Historically resonant and visually rich, this grouping documents the craft behind Disney's second animated feature and highlights a key contributor whose methods later translated drawings into ride hardware for Disneyland. Walt personally chose him to build the original fleet of Peter Pan's Flight pirate galleons, working from Bruce Bushman's scale model; Chris Mueller sculpted forms that Jones then cast in fiberglass in Glendale, innovating new molds and release agents for the sails. In Very Good condition with expected age toning and minor handling wear.
