Description

Disney Ephemera - Assortment of 7 Letters and Photos Between Frank and Ollie and Modeler/Theme Park Designer Bob Jones (Walt Disney, c. 1985). An intimate window into friendships forged at the Disney Studio, this assortment gathers correspondence and photos exchanged between Disney Legends Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston and modeler/theme-park designer Bob Jones. The letters reference Bob and his wife Margie visiting Frank and Jeanette and Ollie and Marie at their neighboring homes on Flintridge Avenue in La Cañada, complete with directions-ephemera from two best friends who lived side by side. Included are five letters to Bob: one on Jungle Book letterhead and two on Ollie Johnston's personal stationery, plus two color photos. Thomas and Johnston-two of "Walt's Nine Old Men"-defined Disney's golden age with nuanced character animation on Pinocchio, Bambi, Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, and The Jungle Book, and later codified their craft in The Illusion of Life and the documentary Frank and Ollie. Bob Jones began in 1937, moving from camera to Joe Grant's Model Department, where he built reference miniatures (including a working Pinocchio marionette and Stromboli's wagon) and, for Disneyland, constructed Peter Pan's Flight galleons. In Very Good condition.
