Mickey's Rival Production Cel Setup with Painted Background (Walt Disney, 1936). In a wonderful combination of hand-inked and hand-painted original production cels from both 1936 theatrical shorts Orphan's Picnic and Mickey's Rival, this is a spectacular setup featuring a great image of Mickey, Minnie, Morty and Ferdie. The cels from Mickey's Rival can be seen at the 3:42 mark of the short. Directed by Wilfred Jackson, Mickey's Rival tells the story of Mickey's competition with Mortimer Mouse for Minnie's affections. A hilarious short, it featured Mickey in a uncharacteristically jealous role, adding a great deal of depth to his character at the time. This piece is framed under Plexiglas with a mat window size of 9.5" x 7.75" and an overall frame size of 20.25" x 18.5". Prepared by the Walt Disney Art Props department, the cels are trimmed to image and mounted to a cel displayed over a painted background based on the one seen at the 4:23 mark of Mickey's Rival. An elaborate piece, it shows minor handling wear, and it is in Very Good condition. The frame is sold as is.
