Mickey's Rival Mickey and Minnie Character Study/ Publicity Art (Walt Disney, 1936). This is a very rare character study of Mickey and Minnie from the 1936 short, Mickey's Rival. In the Wilfred Jackson-directed short Minnie's old sweetheart Mortimer drops in while she and Mickey are out on a picnic. The character study is a series of illustrations that have been created to explore an animated character, after the character has been conceptualized. The character study acts as a comprehensive guide to map out character traits and "proof of concept." It is called such because, as an animator, you must prove that the character can emote in a way that would make an audience care, empathize and relate. Character studies are rare and hard to find. This one is a real find with both Mickey and Minnie in the same piece. One of the best character study/ publicity pieces that we have seen! Rendered in graphite on 12 field, 5-peghole animation paper. Age-related toning and edge wear. Condition is Good to Very Good.
