    Description

Mickey's Parrot Pluto Original Illustration by Hank Porter (Walt Disney, c. 1940s). Good Housekeeping adapted classic Disney cartoons and feature films into poems and prose. From 1934 to 1941, they were drawn by Tom Wood, then from 1941 to 1944 by Hank Porter. In this lot is a terrific piece featuring Pluto from the short, Mickey's Parrot. The artwork was beautifully detailed by Hank Porter for Good Housekeeping. Hank Porter was a popular staff artist of the Disney Publicity Art Department from 1935 to 1950. The magazine was looking for original content and Disney loved the promotional aspect of the agreement. This Hank Porter original was rendered in pen and ink with gouache on board. The image area measures about 8" x 5". The piece is enclosed in a frame of 13" x 11" with a specially cut matboard of 8.5" x 6.75". Frame sold as-is. Hank Porter originals can be hard to find and this one is a real find! Condition of this vintage piece is Very good.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
