Mickey Mouse Fantasia "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" Production Cel Courvoisier Setup and Framed Award Letter Group of 2 (Walt Disney, 1940). Mickey Mouse cels as the Sorcerer's Apprentice (his most famous role) are highly sought by collectors. Lucky 13-year old Irene Kanelstein won this one in 1941 with her essay titled "What I Like Best In Fantasia." The stunning Courvoisier setup features Mickey in the Sorcerer's hat, watching as an animated broom scoops water in a bucket. Mickey and the Broom are both trimmed to the edges on their hand-painted cels and the hand-painted production background is a Key Master for the Broom cel! They are handsomely framed with a personalized Walt Disney signature card that reads "My Best Wishes to Irene Kanelstein -- Winner Fantasia Essay Contest, Walt Disney." To substantiate the provenance on this item, it comes with another frame that contains the Courvoisier sticker from the back of the setup, a page on the letter head of the New York Federation of Music Clubs (who sponsored the essay contest) which has little Irene's essay on it, and a newspaper clipping announcing her big win! This is a fantastic piece of Disney history, showing how they connected to a wide audience. Note: That is an actual Walt Disney signature from his hand, not a studio signature. This was something special. The newspaper clipping says it was worth $300 dollars in 1941. We suspect it will bring much more than that today! Mickey is 4.5" tall, the Broom is approximately 4" x 4", and the mat opening is 8" x 6.25". It is glass front framed to 20" x 21". The documents are glass front framed to 21.25" x 18.5". All are in Fine condition overall.Auction Info
