Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Jose Carioca Original Illustration (Walt Disney, 1940s). A magnificent, unique pen-and-ink artwork in the style of comic strip art featuring Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Jose Carioca, as they present a birthday cake to Miss Sintonia, a "Thank You" to the Sintonia Company for their work with Disney Studios.
Sintonia was the company that translated Disney films into Spanish for markets in South and Central America. Walt Disney's trips to Brazil, Argentina, and Chile are well documented; he and a group of artists made the trip in 1941 as part of a goodwill tour commissioned by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Disney also wanted to escape the stress of the animators' strike that was occurring at the time. It was after these visits that he produced Saludos Amigos (1942) and The Three Caballeros (1944).
The artwork appears to be in the style of Floyd Gottfredson and Hank Porter. It measures 17" x 12" and is in Good condition with some handling wear and a bisecting fold crease. A brittle sheet of tissue paper serves as a protective overlay. An historic piece of artwork highlighting the influences on Disney during the early 1940s.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
