Mickey Mouse Annual "Willy the Wiggling Wand" Mickey as the Sorcerer's Apprentice Pages Original Art Group of 5 (Walt Disney/Dean & Son, c. 1950s). Most Disney fans agree that Mickey Mouse's greatest role was as "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" in Fantasia (1940). Mickey reprised that part several times over the years, but here's one you might have missed! A 1950s British Mickey Mouse Annual featured Mickey wearing the familiar robe and pointed hat in a story called "Willy the Wiggling Wand," and here is a fantastic collection of brightly-colored art from that story. First up is the title art, with Mickey opening up a book of magic spells, noted as Page 65 (approximate image size 8.25" x 5.75", board size 11" x 8.5"). Next is a large image of Mickey addressing the snake-like wand, noted as Page 66 (image 8" x 10", board 10.5" x 11.5"), followed by Mickey watching the wand floating in air, noted as Page 67 (image 8" x 8.5", board 9.5" x 12.25"), and Mickey turning into a padlock, noted as 69 (image 4.75" x 4.5", board 7.75" x 8"). There is an additional illustration of Mickey as the Apprentice that we know to be from the 1956 Annual; in it, an angry Mickey is shouting and pointing at a snoozing bar of soap, noted as 11 (image 9" x 5.25", board 11" x 7.75") with "Mickey Mouse Annual 1955" written on back. The art is painted in gouache on illustration board. This 60+ year old art is without a doubt the rarest "Sorcerer's Apprentice" Mickey Mouse art we've seen to date! Art condition is Good to Very Good, with handling/edge wear, and old rubber cement stains around the images.
