Merbabies Concept Painting by Ferdinand Horvath (Walt Disney, 1938). Ferdinand Horvath (1881 - 1973) worked as a story and concept artist for Walt Disney Studios from 1933 to 1937. His work at the studio is detailed in the great book by Didier Ghez, They Drew As They Pleased - The Hidden Art of Disney's Golden Age (The 1930s) Vol. One. One of the last projects he was known to work on for the studio was the Silly Symphony short Merbabies, which was released on 12/9/38. A sample of his work on this film can be seen in Mr. Ghez's book on page 125. This is a rare piece of Ferdinand Horvath original concept artwork of the Merbaby Parade. Art is in gouache on 12 field 5-peghole background board. This is a detailed painting with rich colors; image takes up 7.5" x 5.5". Distinctive "Horvath" signature is under the artwork. Minor handling wear, pinholes and surface wear. Good condition.
