Mary Poppins Penguin Dancers Production Cel with Preliminary Background Setup and Animation Drawing Group (Walt Disney, 1964). "Order what you will... there'll be no bill... it's complimentary!" Ham Luske was the director for the terrific animated sequences in Mary Poppins. Here is one of the most impressive pieces of animation art from this landmark Disney film we've seen: a great hand-painted production cel of the four penguins that dance with Bert at the tea party with Mary. A cut-out photo of Bert (Dick Van Dyke) from the Art Props Department is on a cover cel. The most impressive part of this setup is the background; a magnificent preliminary pastel piece, done on 16 field 3-peghole board. It is marked in bottom border by Al Dempster. Mr. Dempster was one of the main background artists on this film, and a Disney Legend Inductee in 2006. The background is a stunning piece of artwork on its own. Overall size 16" x 12.5". The penguins stand 2" to Bert's 5". A 12 field animation drawing of the penguins is also included. Tape on border, otherwise Very Good condition. From the Joe Hale Collection.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
