Mary Poppins Movie Poster Preliminary Painting by Paul Wenzel (Walt Disney, 1964). Mary Poppins was released on 8/27/64 and received 13 Academy Award nominations. It was Julie Andrews' film debut and she won the Oscar for Best Actress. This movie is considered one of the crowning achievements in live action film during Walt Disney's lifetime. It was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry, by the Library of Congress, in 2013. A sequel by Walt Disney Studios is planned for December 2018. Here is Paul Wenzel's original preliminary painting of Bert and Mary (Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke). It was created in preparation for the one sheet movie poster in 1964, and is remarkably similar to the finished design. Mr. Wenzel worked for Disney for 42 years and provided artwork for over 100 theatrical one sheets. This may be his most well-known, painted image! Art is in watercolor/gouache on illustration board measuring 15" x 15", with a painted area of approximately 10" x 7". Artwork is hand-signed and dated 1964 by the artist. One of the most important pieces of artwork from this film we have ever handled. Minor handling wear. Very Good condition.Auction Info
