Description

Mary Blair Song of the South Br'er Rabbit, Br'er Bear, and Br'er Fox Concept Art (Walt Disney, 1946). In his book Magic, Color, Flair - The World of Mary Blair, John Canemaker writes "During the 1940s, Mary Blair was called upon to produce inspirational sketches for the live action film that melded with cartoons, such as Song of the South." Blair (1911-1978), along with Claude Coats, was credited as Background and Color Stylist on this film. We have seen only a few works by Blair of this size, and this may be the largest. A stunning work, it shows Br'er Rabbit at the end of his rope, dealing with Br'er Bear and Br'er Fox. Her wonderful signature style is clearly evident in every inch of this masterful painting, produced in tempera and watercolor on illustration board and attractively matted to 13.5" x 11". It is Plexiglas front framed to 24" x 21.5" and in Fine condition.
