Mary Blair "Sick Call" Illustration (c. 1930s) John Canemaker writes in his book Magic, Color, Flair: The World of Mary Blair, "Mary Blair was a scholarship student at Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. Starting in the fall of 1931, she began working at the school with well-known American illustrator Pruett Carter. Carter's instructions in the art of composition, and his rules for staging pictures, and visualizing expressive emotions, profoundly influenced Blair. He inspired her and encouraged her latent talent for dramatizing a scene." She married artist Lee Blair in 1934, and they exhibited both of their works in the mid-to-late 1930s. This item showcases the talent and genius of Mary Blair: a 1930s-era charcoal on paper artwork titled "Sick Call." It is on paper measuring 11.75" x 14.75", and is hand-signed in the bottom left corner as "Mary." It can be seen on page 46 of the previously mentioned book. This piece was exhibited in the Walt Disney Family Museum Mary Blair Exhibit. Art is in a Plexiglas-front frame measuring 17" x 14". A stunning piece of artwork from the hand of a young Mary Blair, at the start of her career. Frame is sold as-is; artwork condition is Very Good. From the Mary Blair Family Trust Archives.Shipping, Taxes, Terms and Bidding
