    Mary Blair Peter Pan Mermaids Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1953). "Just imagine, real live mermaids!" The beautiful, self-absorbed and occasionally jealous mermaids of Never Land are featured here in this fantastic original concept painting by Disney Legend Inductee Mary Blair (1911 - 1978). As color stylist on this film, Mary Blair made several concept paintings of the mermaids testing out a variety of different color palettes, and this is the largest Mary Blair painting of the mermaids we've seen. With bold flat colors, broad textural brush strokes and a centered Mary Blair-signature full moon highlighted by surrounding glittering stars, this piece is definitive and quintessential Mary Blair. In the book Walt Disney's Peter Pan by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson with illustrations by Mary Blair, the mermaid page reads, "while the boys were off being captured, Peter took Wendy to visit the mermaids. They were beautiful and excellent swimmers, but they were not always nice." This fantastic image of Disney's unforgettable original mean girls measures 14.25" x 12", rendered in gouache on illustration board. The board shows minor handling and edge wear with pinholes in the corners, and the condition is Very Good.
