Mary Blair Peter Pan Indian Village Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1953). Didier Ghez devoted an entire chapter of his book Disney: They Drew As They Pleased:The Hidden Art of Disney's Mid -Century Era (The 1950s and 60s) to the art of Mary Blair. On page 67 it reads: "When Mary Blair passed away on July 26, 1978, her former Disney colleague Marc Davis was quoted as saying, 'Mary Blair was the most amazing colorist of all time. I don't think even Matisse could hold a candle to her -- and I mean that sincerely. She could put colors together and they would just sing'." This lot showcases that high praise from a Disney Legend. Presented is an original concept/Color Key painting of the Indians of Neverland playing their tom-toms by Mary Blair (1911 - 1978). The pallette of color is amazing the simple stylized imagery captures this peaceful scene. It is hand-painted in gouache on 8" x 6". Original artwork by Disney's master of color and style, Mary Blair is highly sought after by collectors. Minor handling and pinholes in corners. Overall condition is Very Good.
