Mary Blair Peter Pan Arrival at Never Land Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1953). The Darling children Michael, John and Wendy arrive at Never Land with Tinker Bell and Peter Pan just before dawn in this wonderful original concept painting by the hand of Mary Blair (1911-1978). Bold splashes of cool, bluish tones punctuate the warm yellow of Tinker Bell's glow. In an inspired move, Mary Blair depicts the reflection of the full moon under Tinker Bell instead of the moon itself, a subtle hint that the children truly are in a magical place. Blair's paintings of the trip to Never Land are well documented in pages 114-117 of John Canemaker's Magic, Color, Flair: The World of Mary Blair, and it is one of the key iconic Peter Pan scenes for which Blair's influence really shines through. This piece depicts all five of the main heroic characters of the film (including the elusive Tinker Bell!). It is rendered masterfully in gouache on 10" x 9" illustration board, and the board shows minor handling and edge wear. There are pinholes in the corners, and the condition is Very Good.
