DescriptionMary Blair Melody Time Pecos Bill Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1948). "Now, Pecos Bill was quite a cowboy down in Texas. Why, he's the western Superman to say the least. He was the roughest, toughest critter, never known to be a quitter – ‘cause he never had no fear of man nor beast!" Mary Blair was in charge of art direction, color and styling in the animated compilation feature film Melody Time along with Dick Kelsey and Claude Coats. Her work in "Once Upon a Wintertime" is considered the closest her concept work ever made it to the screen. She also contributed to the "Pecos Bill" section of this film. This lot is the first representation of any work done in her hand from this section. You can see the southwest landscape styling in this stunning image of Pecos Bill on his horse Widowmaker with his six-guns a-blazing. This is a Great Pecos Bill image of 7" x 6" rendered in gouache on paper mounted to board measuring approximately 10" x 8". This is a stylish concept painting in a mat of 13 ¾" x 11 ½". Pinholes in corners and minor handling and edge wear. Very Good condition. Mat sold as is.
