Mary Blair "It's a Small World" Concept Painting (Walt Disney, 1964). This global fan-favorite attraction first opened at the New York World's Fair on 4/22/64. It was designed by Mary Blair and had costumes designed by Alice Davis. This attraction proved to be so popular that it reopened in Disneyland on 5/28/66 after the World's Fair had closed. It has gone on to be included at Disney Theme Parks in Orlando, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. Mary Blair was inducted as a Disney Legend in 1991. Her work was selected for one of the very first Disney Family Museum Art Exhibits; Magic, Color, and Flair ...The World of Mary Blair which ran from March 13 thru September 7, 2014. Exhibits of her work have been shown globally, and in 2019 at the Hibbert Museum of California Art at Chapman University. This is an outstanding Mary Blair (1911 - 1978) original concept painting for the Small World attraction. It is her rendition of the children of Venice, Italy. Rendered in gouache on light board of 13" x 10". The art is in a frame of 18" x 15". The blues of the water and gondola poles just jump off this painting. Frame is sold as-is. Artwork has minor handling and edge wear. Overall Very Good condition. From the Forbes Collection.
