DescriptionMary Blair Fiesta of the Flowers Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1943-45). Presented is one of the finest pieces we've seen created by Mary Blair for the never-made Fiesta of the Flowers. Unbelievably rare, this painting has eye-popping color that could only be delivered by the hand of Mary Blair. In 1941, Mary Blair (1911-1978) traveled with a studio group on Walt Disney's South American Goodwill tour, and it was a formative trip for the artist, inspiring her work to the bright, flat colors for which she is celebrated. When Walt Disney returned, he planned to make 12 short cartoons with Latin American themes, but he ultimately decided to package the shorts in groups of four and release them as features. Of these, Saludos Amigos and Three Caballeros were produced, but the third was shelved: Fiesta of the Flowers. Rendered beautifully in gouache on orange storyboard paper containing 5 pegholes, it bears the production number 2053 on the back. Measuring 9" x 8", the sheet shows minor handling and edge wear with pinholes in the corners. The condition is Very Good.
