    Description

Mary Blair Cinderella Concept Painting (Walt Disney, 1950). "Cinderella's step-mother banished her from the warm parts of the house to the cold quarters of the scullery, where Cinderella cooked and cleaned and sometimes cried, and sometimes dreamed." These are the words from the book Walt Disney's Cinderella retold by Cynthia Rylant, with pictures by Mary Blair (1911-1978). This is Ms. Blair's fantastic original portrait concept painting of Cinderella in her castle work outfit; she can be seen wearing this outfit on two pages in the book. The art is in tempera and watercolor on board, with an amazing 7" image; it's one of the largest Mary Blair paintings of Cinderella alone we have ever seen. Ms. Blair did much of the art direction and color styling for this film. Framed with a mat opening of 6" x 8". This is a "wow" lot for any fan of Cinderella and/or collectors of Mary Blair artwork. In Fine condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
