Mary Blair Alice in Wonderland Entrance to Wonderland Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1951). "Mr. Rabbit! Wait! Please!" Alice chases the White Rabbit through the surreal checkered landscape of the entrance to Wonderland in this stunning concept painting by the hand of Mary Blair (1911 - 1978). The off-kilter linear perspective at once creates an impressive illusion of depth while also evoking a feeling of dizzy disorientation, qualities preserved memorably in the final film. The way Blair masterfully guides your eye from Alice's path to the White Rabbit and Wonderland beyond attests not only to her keen sense of composition, but to her ability to deftly tell a story in a single image. Known for her stunning flat colors, Mary Blair's work on Alice in Wonderland focuses greatly on environment, showcasing Wonderland itself as the true star of the show. This fantastic piece is rendered in gouache on 10" x 9" illustration board. The board shows minor handling and edge wear with mild debris. There are pinholes in the corners, and the condition is Very Good.
